Post 8- Institutional Research

Objective:

You MUST ONLY research the institution (company) that is attached to your chosen brief – either Bauer media, Universal Music or Channel 4.
• What type of media products do they produce? (print, audio visual, audio, online).
• What type of company is it? (independent? Does it have a parent company? Is it a subsidiary company? Is it an international company? Is it a cross media company? Is it a commercial company or a public service?
• What is the ethos/mission statement/values of the company? How does this reflect on the company’s work? How can you incorporate these values/ethos/mission statement into your idea?

This is another post i decided to use goconqr for.

Post 7- Media Theory

objective:
How is media theory used in 2 media products and how these make the text appealing to an intended audience?

The sun Page 3 Van Zoonen:

Image result for the sun page 3

Page 3 is a widely known feature of the British newspaper The Sun had typically had a nude upper body woman which the tabloid always had as a tradition for a long time but as modern times have arises it has been a controversial topic but has now since been stopped.During its run it was very popular with  readers most likely to be male shows the affect of Van Zoonens Feminist Theory how that womens body are just represented as objects since they are just thrown into the newspaper clearly for mens sexual pleasure and nothing else, it just shows how men are at the top and women are just objects which is a patriarchal culture so it appeals directly to men.

Walking dead is a massive popular tv show which has the basic premise of killing zombies to survive and being wary of the living. The show has lead to easily develop the 'mean world syndrome'
the show has been running around 8 years and has still on going it glorifies violence and gore and killing which could be a contributor for gun killings within america since the show is one of the most popular in the world. The main thing is that you cant trust anybody which shows the modern message about trust and how it can be easily related to real life since its a life lesson to extent to be aware of that but this media product shows how the trust doesn't just hurt you emotionally bu tit can get you killed which is always a real life possibility.

Post 6- website analysis

Objective:

Choose 1 example of a website from one of the media texts you looked at previously. E.g. If you analysed Vogue magazine then analyse their website. If you analysed a music video from an artist then analyse their website.

Vogue was a main inspiration for my website its sleek colour palette of black and white it just keeps the classical and posh themes from around the 1950s type of atmosphere since vogue has been around for a long time and has covered a wide range of fashion over the decades and they haven't altered their colour palette they keep it consistent which keeps the perception of the magazine consistent. The layout of the website is simple and 'slim' like a model all the top stories are at the top and the information is kept in a neat fashion rather than having loads of adverts on the side which a lot of websites have which makes the website look unappealing. The fact that the website follows the magazine just shows a craft of the media product which is extremely consistent which a lot of other magazines do not do.

Post 5-Media Language

Objective:

How combinations of media language elements are used to create meaning and construct representations that address and appeal to an intended audience? Choose 2 media texts of the main texts from the brief you’ve chosen.

Imperatives is used in this GQ cover "its time you took the great european road trip" its saying it as if its a instruction.

The teaser used in the cover is "Let us now forgive justin bieber" it just grabs the attention of the reader like why do we forgive justin bieber just makes readers wonder then they buy the magazine.

The intertexuality with the line "the fresh prince of game of thrones" it linked two iconic media products which are known universally which makes readers immediately aware and wonder who is the magazine referring to.

Another way of intertextuality is with the line that says "a guide to americas most evil villains" so it even has justin bieber like dressed as a villian mainly by the rings since a lot of villians typically wear rings.

The use upper case letters to make everything on the cover seem important and it highlights the best parts.

Post 4-Intertextuality

The US Vogue cover mirrors the iconic image of King Kong holding onto actress Fay Wray, referencing James as the massive gorilla. James’ facial expression is wild, and he appears to be mid-roar like the savage monster in the movie poster this cover has massive links to the world war 1 enlist poster which had king kong on the poster which you can see above also such impressions perpetuate the racist stereotype that black men are dangerous, and white woman need to be saved from them it parallels James to a gorilla, perpetuating racist associations between black people and apes.also the King Kong resemblance, there is a distinct contrast between the “savage” black athlete and the “sophisticated” white model. While Gisele is styled in an elegant, designer silk dress and a pair of trendy heels, James wears simple athletic wear the edition is ment to be about shape so talking about body so why isnt gisele wearing athletic wear its because she is ment to contrast the "primitive" lebron james holding her.

This issue’s purpose was to celebrate shape, the entire aim is forgotten due to the jaw dropping visuals that draw influence from an archaic and destructive stereotype that is still so unfortunately prevalent in our society which makes people think that this perception of black people shouldnt exist anymore and how disgusted it can make people feel in this modern age.

The wired magazine has the front cover of a woman flexing her arm and wearing engineering clothing which represents the world war 1 photo of the same nature which was created because during the war men were away from the house so they needed to step up to do mens jobs for the country to function  and so wired wanted to show the intertextuality that women can do mens jobs thats why the title of the magazine also has "how to make stuff" also showing that women are equal as men.

Post 2 History of fashion magazine

Prepration research:

Learning Objectives:

  • K: What the minimum requirements for the preparatory tasks.
  • U: The relevance of each of these tasks.
  • BAT: Undertake preparatory work as prescribed below.
  • CO: Use media terminology throughout verbal and written communication.

Task 1

The first notion of fashion illustrated began with the courts of aristocracy recording information about what they were wearing. In the late 1600's and 1700’s, French women and dressmakers outside of the court relied on sketches to see what was being worn.in the 1900, fashion magazines begin to feature photography.

Over time vogue has changed it style to be a part of modern conventions such as all the titles around the picture with a main celebrity in the middle rather than just a fashion model. Which represents the modern desire to see celebrities so people can imitate the clothes they are wearing because any model that isnt well know by the general public wont bring as much attention like a celebrity would.it allows the front cover to connect more with their target audience which makes it effective.

First modern man magazine is called the gentlemans magazine and was printed in 1731 and was about literature, poetry and political comments and varied out eventually to create alternate versions such as a fashion version.

In 1930, Ethiopian leader Haile Selassie became the first black man on the cover of Time. He was also the first black person chosen as man of the year.

Newsweek a magazine which has been ongoing for 80 years in the us the last print edition will be on 31 December, reflecting the trend for newspapers and magazines to move online as traditional advertising declines.Printing is expensive but why continue when you can have a cheaper alternative and in addition the newsweek website is popular this happened in 2012 and the last print edition was 31st december 2012.

Post 1 Statement Of Intent

OCR Statement of intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirement of your chosen brief

four areas:
-media language
-representation
-genre
-audience

product :magazine

Media language:

The language required is going to have to appeal to our target audience which is is class A and B so the upper echelon of society so for example with our layout its gonna be eye catching but minimal because typically with higher class based fashion it isnt as flashy so i plan to implement that style for the front cover style so it doesnt have as many subheadings to look like any other magazine because not any ordinary person is going to be reading my magazine. When it comes to typography it is going to a italic styled font with a white or silver colour typically brighter more pure looking colours are associated with high up classes.Images that will be used are gonna be elegant and not be sexualised if its not needed.Language is going to mainly keep a formal tone and not use a lot of street slang which our audience may not completely understand, but there would be some slang that are for specific clothing like for example its widely known that red bottoms are loubiton shoes which are highly priced shoes.the type of camera shots will include mainy a upper body shot of the top half of my model while he is looking at the camera and my second will most likely have a full body shot to include shoes also.

Representation:

I want the magazine to resemble my target audience i want it to be a expression of the prestigous A and B class so also people who arent part of that class may want to read to receive a insight to the fashion of almost a different culture to be used as inspiration to aspire people.with my first cover i want my model to use which represents simplicity and how its key in looking fashionable and just trying to convey that fashion doesnt require a individual to go overboard to be fashionable which also related to the class A and B which stereotypically wear more than lower classes would. In my second intended cover i wanted it to look more like hip hop fashion that rappers would wear or even high end designer but casual such as balmain t shirts and jeans dsquared those type of brands but casual wear which can be applicable to class A and B people and even people lower who may be able to afford some items which can allow more people to relate to the casual wear like the kind of clothes you would see in the club.

Genre:

I want my magazine to be different to the usual conventions of a magazine such as having the millions of subheadings all of the front cover so it looks clustered it just needs to be unique and have a rare style since class A and B people are rare and unique so i want my magazine to be the same to divert from typical genre conventions.it will still have subheadings although they wont be so explosive in appearance such as other magazines which is done to attract readers but i want my magazine to stand out because of its simplicity which is ment to be unique by not being your run of the mill fashion magazine.

Audience:
The whole style an ideology is gong to reflect my audience to stand out but im not going to alienate other markets i want anyone to be read the magazine and understand what life is like for a different social class.like which relates to the difference in my ideas for my first and second cover by having my first cover to me more smart casual wear is more suited to class A and B people which would rather wear smart casual than wear completely casual which links to my second cover which is more casual audience which still relates to class A and B but also has fashion aspects that lower classes can access like for the class A and B people could wear balmain jeans and a t shirt which are very expensive but lower class people could wear non branded biker jeans which look similar but cost nowhere near as much and wear a cheaper designer t shirt such as armani for example.

Product 2 website:

Media language:

The website is going to follow the same suit as the magazine with the language, typography and images also i want my website to not change the ideology of the magazine so i want it to be similar.so i maintain the same style as the magazine so the theme stays consistent as the magazine which i important for magazine and the online counterpart so intend to do so.

Representation:
The website will have different sub sections exploring other types of fashion to show more diversity within the fashion industry, it will be more applicable to all classes to some extent it still will be mainly class A and B but other classes will be included like for example budget options so the website can be mass applicable but it will keep the simple modern look also which follows the magazines identity and personality which im trying to build and keep consistent.

Genre:
it will take the same style as the magazine but it wont be a minimalistic because i want the website to be an continuation of the magazine but integrate it to a website format so the website isnt cluttered and easy to navigate which makes the website suitable for all audiences.

Audience:

This audience is meant to be expanded aswell to be for everyone still with the class A and B priority but since the internet is a huge audience i feel i could attract new audiences which could be interested in the style of different fashion areas since fashion has many many styles which influence each other which can allow the website to be seen and witnessed by all audiences so different people of different classes are able to add their influence into the website because i would like a part with the ability to have a discussion about fashion to allow the website to diversify and be expanded so people are able to discuss fashion.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)

My media products are linked by having a form of synergy between all my products which is something a lot of the bigger corporations do for example vogue they utilise the synergy to keep their products whether digital as in the website or physical with the magazine it needs to be unified to keep the readers aware. In addition with the digital nature you can create a website and have interactive media content which allows the reader to give an input to the content being produced which kind of represents the prosumer culture which has arisen due to the digital nature which is why i wanted to include those interactive parts of my website and on my magazine to indicate to look at my brand as a whole online aswell and i will do this by having a part on my website where the audience can send in their fashion ideas and a forum which they can communicate their fashion to each other.
